Obfuscation and multi-hop are frequently presented as “advanced privacy” features, but they solve different problems.

Obfuscation

Obfuscation changes how VPN traffic appears on the network. The goal is to reduce simple protocol identification or blocking. It can help on restrictive networks, but it may add overhead and is not needed on every connection.

Multi-hop

Multi-hop routes traffic through two or more VPN servers before it reaches the internet. This changes the trust and routing model, but it also adds latency and can reduce throughput.

Which problem are you solving?

Use obfuscation when the problem is VPN detection or blocking. Consider multi-hop when the problem is reducing reliance on a single VPN server path and you accept the performance cost.
